BIM in heavy construction projects – research proposal

Introduction

The development and real estate businesses are the biggest businesses within the world and are the foremost divided industries. the view of the construction industry is more focus as its uniqueness may confront numerous coordination and delivery issues..The advanced industrial, information, and communication technology put forwards many tools to eradicate the coordination issues in the construction industry to improve productivity concerns construction industry. During the last three decades, there is rapid development and improvement in the usage of Information technology in construction industries. Among these, the most promising one is the usage of Building information modelling (BIM). The construction industry describes BIM as a technology that facilitates the reuse and storage of information throughout a project. It also plays a significant role in the integration and coordination of information across many disciplines. The thesis attempts to establish and comprehend the constraints that limit the use of BIM in the Australian construction sector, despite the economic and environmental benefits of the new technology.

Project objectives

The objectives of the study includes: -

Identification of BIM implementation obstacles and barriers in the Australian construction sector

The bridging process of barriers and effective strategies to be considered for the implementation of BIM in Australian construction projects

Research problem

The architecture, engineering, and development trades have verifiably low advancement in efficiency viewpoints compared to other businesses. BIM has been created in may but the appropriation of BIM in a continuous way is still very low. Here there's a require for examining the barriers to implementing BIM within the development industry and the require of bridging these obstructions successfully in development projects. There's moreover no clear thought of the proper actor that could drive the appropriation and improvement of BIM in construction ventures to attain the specified efficiency rates.

Research development and methodology

The thesis' major goal is to pinpoint the impediments anticipating BIM implementation within the design sectors. The thesis's objective is to supply readers with a exhaustive grasp of the BIM decision-making process used in high- and heavy Australian building projects.

Proposed method

The method is exploratory literature study of barriers in implementing BIM in Australian construction industry and determination of its cause of less adoption rate that can be further investigated and solutions can be proposed for implementation in works.

Expected outcomes

The key focus of the study is to study the hurdles and barriers of BIM in the Australian AEC industry. The research problem is known, and exploratory research was chosen as the thesis type. The thesis also requires examination of barriers in a specific project which is considered more problematic and research design is focused to examine the areas, barriers of affected areas in construction due to lack of efficiency in decision making.
