The national retail chain has led to the supply of samples and testing of organisation shampoo among the chain customers. The organisation wants to increase the sales of a product by supplying the shampoo directly to the customers (Pantiuchina, et al., 2017). There are various barriers in order to implement this idea such as the transportation cost of the product as well as the transport cost empty bottles in the organisation from retailers. The organisation products are highly recommended by the hairdressers and the professionals in the market so it becomes easy for the organisation to deliver the product with the target audience directly.

This study highlights the inefficiency and also the spare capacity in the organisation. In order to eradicate this organisation implement lean principles for its operation which aids the organisation to ramp up the production and meet the increased requirement of the products. The study will also demonstrate the agile approach taken by the organisation to complement the lean implementation in its business function. In order to implement this approaches organisation also appoint a team which is the tiger team in order to undertake this project (Nurdiani, Börstler & Fricker, 2016). The study segment into 5 parts the first part represent the leadership style that the organisation needs to undertake. The second part is the skills and the competencies required to do these changes and the next part is the continuous improvement plan to facilitate the lean business operation. The next is the risk management plan which includes all the strategies and the last section is the conclusion.

Leadership Style

The leadership style that should be adopted by the project team leader is the transformational leadership style. This leadership style not only help the candidates to perform better but it also helps them to enhance their skills and come up with innovative ideas to enhance the operations. Transformational leadership style focused on the implementation of new ideas in the operations and to manage the strategies for the upcoming approaches. This kind of leaders supports the team members and encourages them to take innovative and creative approaches to find the solution for the problems (Al-Refaie, Abbasi & Al-shalaldeh, 2019). However, the employee’s satisfaction level is quietly high in working under this leadership style. Morning Dew currently wants to implement the lean principle in its operation that enable them to ramp up their production and meet the increased demand without over exceeding before stabilization of new opportunities. The lean approach follows agile principles that project around motivated individuals and trust them to get the job done with a high success rate. 

The five principles of lean are the defined value, map the value, stream, create flow, establish pull and pursuit perfection. Defining the values of an organisation needs to understand by the leaders. The needs and demand of the customers are important and the money that they are willing to pay for the services should be determined by the leader. This will be conducted by taking surveys and other methods by the organisation. The second principle is mapping the value stream in which a leader plays a very important role. A leader needs to identify all the activities that can contribute to the values (Ebert & Paasivaara, 2017). The next principle of lean approaches is to create flow after removal of waste from the value stream. This is very important for the organisations eradicate unwanted values from the stream. The next principle is established pull which refers to limiting the inventory and work in process items while ensuring that the required materials and information are available for the proper working of the operations.

It aids the organization to deliver the products within the time range. Pursuit perfection is the last principal in the lean principle as it makes lean thinking and continuous improvement in the process as a part of the organisation culture (Curtis, 2019). Applying this principle is not easy for the organisation therefore leadership play a Cardinal role in order to implement the lean practice in the organisation. Effective and supportive leaders are required in order to implement the lean practice in the organisation. Therefore transformational leadership style is required for Morning Dew organisation in order to accomplish all the predefined goals of the organisation. Transformational leaders make a positive environment in the organisation and take decision by consulting with the team members. This leadership style of leaders always refers and considered the team decision and then takes any decision after the approval of the members. Therefore in order to manage the lean practice in the organisation, it is very important to have transformational leadership.

Skills and Competencies

The competencies that should be acquired by the project manager in order to succeed are comprising of critical thinking, technical competence, team management, strategy development, communication, commendable execution, and strong decision-making process. This should be required by a project manager to manage the team performance and accomplish all the predefined goals of the organisation. The project manager plays an imperative role in order to guide the team members by providing then appropriate direction and also to manage the working deadlines of the projects. Morning Dow needs a leader which can easily manage the working of the team tiger and effectively execute the lean practices and agile practices in the organisation (Ciccullo, Pero, Caridi, Gosling & Purvis, 2018). It is very important for the organisation to use transformational leaders in order to successfully manage lean practices and agile practices in the organisation.

Skills and competencies required by the tiger team members are transparency, hard work, effective communication, good decision-making process, adaptability etc. These are the key characteristic that needs to be acquired by the tiger team members in order to manage the operations in the organisation. The most important characteristic that should be acquired by the team members is the trust and faith in their leader. They need to understand the decisions and the strategies of the team leader as strategies and plan are helpful for the organisation as well as for term. These characteristics should be acquired by the project leader as well as for the project members in order to align the work in the accomplishment of organisational goals and objective.

Continuous Improvement Plan

Sales improvement plan facilitate and enhance the lean business operations of Morning Dew. The organisation has listed various continuous improvement plans but do not find out the perfect continuous improvement plan for the organisation. The organisation can use the PDCA which is one of the most used continuous improvement plans. This is one of the continuous improvement tools that aids the organisation to test different ideas in the hypothesis that aids the organisation to accomplish all the define goals (Udokporo et al., 2020). The Framework is comprised of force that is plan do check and act. The organisation wants to add lean practice and agile practices in the organisation as this improvement plan help the organisation to test these practices in the workforce. The plan here refers to the plan that the organisation need to define and the process through which it can be achieved. After this process, the implementation of this plan will be conducted. The next step is the check which refers to the evaluation of the results and the identification of opportunities for improvement. The last step in this entire cycle is the act. The organisation needs to adjust on the basis of previous step results.

This cycle has wide application in the organisation as it helps the organisation to identify the areas of improvement and opportunities full. The lean and the agile principles unlock the intrinsic motivation of knowledge workers and decentralize decision-making process. The lean practices and the agile practices applying the organisation help to improve the current business of the organisation. As the organisation has to face the increased competition in the market, therefore, constant innovation and improvisation in products need to be delivered by the organisation to its target audience. Thus, the organisation needs to focus on innovation and creativity in products and check the applicability of this innovation by the plan-do-check-act tool.

This tool facilitates continuous improvement and empowers employees to test and validate new ideas on a small scale. It creates a culture of creativity and innovation which is very much difficult for the organisation competitors to replicate. The tiger team easily apply this tool and enhance the productivity of the organisation. The important application of these is that it is very easy to understand and no prior training will be required by the team members (Bereskie, Rodriguez & Sadiq, 2017). This tool not only helps the tiger team members to improve the productivity but also so has the other department of the organisation such as human resource to research and development departments. Wide range of practices places to be undertaken by the organisation in order to remind this tool in the organisation. This tool helps the organisation to make innovative approaches and testify those approaches that and testify with the organisation working. 

Morning Dow wants to implement lean practices and Agile practices prices of daily meetings creating product backlog setting communication guidelines visualising workflows etc. This can only be done by applying the continuous improvement tool in the organisation. This tool not only helps the member of the organisation to create a full justifiable plan but also aids the organisation to check the applicability of the plan within a short range of time (Lu et al., 2019). Agile practices are considered as the project management methodology that consists of various development cycles in order to bring continuous improvement in the services of the organisation. Thus, to make improvements in the existing services and the products organisation need to choose a well-managed and understandable tool that can be easily run by team tiger. Plan-do-check-act is the most preferable tool for creating a culture of creativity within an organisation that cannot be replicated by competitors.

Risk Management Plan

The risk management plan is considered as a document that includes all the essential details of risk management processes in the organisation. This process starts by creating a team of stakeholders and the organisation to review potential risk. The five steps in this process are comprised of identification of risk analyses, risk evaluating, treating the risk and monitoring the risk. The potential risk that can impact the organisations in implementing lean practices is resource management, people management and standardization (Jovanovi?, Filipovi? & Baki?, 2017). The Lean practice aids the organisation to minimise waste and reduce the cost by adopting automation and continuous improvements in operational efficiency. This highly relies on the technological systems and smaller workforce by having highly trained employees in the organisation.

The key issues in the implementation of lean practices are supply chain issues. The supply chain issues are comprised of lack of traceability and maintaining the safety and quality of the products. As the organisation is implementing new products that meet the need of the customer but the organisation needs to maintain the standards as the new products may not suit the customer preferences. It used to create a product that suits to a large audience by knowing the needs and requirements. The main supply chain issue is the miss communication between the project managers of both the companies who are suppliers and dealers. In order to maintain the incoming of raw materials and outgoing of the products, the project manager needs to look and communicate properly to both the suppliers and dealers. 

The next issue is the employment development. Adopting new technologies and implementing it creates a talent gap that must be crossed. As the organisation producing a different range of products which need automation and their employees of the organisation need to be updated with the Technologies automation. Therefore the organisation needs to train the staff of the organisation in order to adopt the new changes in the organisation processing. Lean practice required highly skilled workers that will likely to have safety certification and special licence to operate and maintain such kind of systems. The biggest challenge for the organisation is to train the staff time by time in order to make innovations in the product as per the needs and demand of the customers. Next issue for the organisation is cultural issues. Lean and Agile practices introduce a ground-breaking shift in the working of manufacturing processes (Prashar, 2017). Implementing the strategies in the organisation requires a small number of employees to get a wider range of roles and responsibilities in the organisation. Therefore these cultural issues need to be eradicated by the organisation by interacting with the employees and knowing their point of you towards the lean practices driving in the organisation.

The next challenge faced by the organisation is the technological challenges. Innovation in the existing products of the organisation requires certain changes and adoption of new technology that needs to be undertaken by the organisation. It is very difficult for the organisation to adopt a perfect technology that can help the organisation to perfectly innovate the product by the tiger team (Morgan & Stewart, 2017). One of the tenants of lean practises is to automate as much as possible and making the organisation reliant on technologies. Therefore the organisation needs to analyse this risk and take crucial steps to eradicate these risks. The organisation needs to be very careful in maintaining the culture and creativity in the organisation as it directly impacts the performance of the organisation.
