Introduction to Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District Analysis

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is a health service provider situated in New South Wales, Australia. It is more into providing safe and equitable services which are of high quality and that is accessible to all of the people when the need be. It deals with providing timely and efficient services as per the needs of the community. 

Strengths

As for the strengths, so NBMLHD strengths or to say their USP is that they are collaboration and they work in that. They work together with their staff, partners and community and ensure all the needs of the people are adequately met.[1] They ensure that there is openness amongst and with its stakeholders so that they could contribute more efficiently.[2] They indulge themselves in empowering the people by scrutinizing their actions and learning from their mistakes.[3] It is so much so that The Quarter, Penrith (Health and Education Precinct), an initiative of the NSW government and the Greater Sydney Commission is very considerate. The Quarter, Penrith had always been an avid contributor to the health sector, universities, TAFE, Private companies and local councils. This helps the NBMLHD to cater to its staffing needs who are amongst the community and understand the need for it better than anybody else.[4]

Weakness

The growing rate of population in Lithgow, Hawkesbury, Blue Mountains and Penrith, is a matter of concern for NBMLHD.[5] As per reports, out of all these states, only in Penrith is the Nepean hospital situated. From 2016 data, the population was 203,100 which rose to 269,046 in 2018.[6] As per the Health Activity Projections Platform and Analytics, it is expected that there shall be a significant increase in population between 70-84 years by 166% by 2036.[7] To cater to such humungous amount of population, they need to establish more of such establishment and recruit efficient staff as per the need.

Opportunities

The government of NSW had promised $550 million investment for Stage 1 of the Nepean Redevelopment hospital in the year 2016 which shall be expected to complete by 2021. This Stage 1 counts in having new block for clinical services, a more stretched out emergency department, 12 new operating theatres and 18 birthing suites etc.[8]

Threats-

Compared to other health service providers, there isn't everything available at NBMLHD. It for this reason why they had made a report on their inconsistencies and promised those inconsistencies to be redressed by 2023. People often complain about lack of services related to mental health, drug and alcohol issues, obesity and not adequate space as per the population requirement.[9] They have no provision for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. They have no facilities for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) population, etc.
