Community Service Organisations

Community service organisation is a a non-profit society which is developed and associated for the welfare of society. The main motive of the society is to do work without political, lobbying, and bribing factors (Community based organisation). The types of the community-based organisation depend on the services provided by them. Some of the community service organisation includes disability service provider, age care agency, older women’s network, intellectual disability rights services and many more (NSW Trustee Guardian). The work culture, organisation body, service provided, organisation philosophy, its goals and objectives totally depend on the type of services they are providing in region.

The assessment will address the two organisations that is: tender loving care and Australian federation of disability organisation. The assessment highlights the historical foundations of this organisation, their goals, ther objectives, target groups, funding, services they are offering, and their management structure. Moreover, it will also describe the disadvantages and marginalisation faced by the target groups for each organisation.

Tender Loving Care

Tender loving care is based in Padstow in Australia. The organisation provides various services to support people in different region. The main goal of the organisation is to help those people who are in need and who suffer from physical, psychological, sensory, and learning disabilities. The organisation operates ethically, transparently, and unitedly to provide the meaningful outcomes to individuals and their specific needs (Tender loving care, N.D.). The goals of the organisation are to advance the disability rights in the community and pave the ways for individuals to grow happy and healthy. The service is committed to provide disable people with individualised support services and facilitate ease access and succefful achieve of their life goals.

The services provide under the organisation includes the followings:

• In home support with daily living activities and duties – under this the organisation provide services for adapting the home environment for safety, and independence; provide transportation for social, medical appointments,; personal care such as grooming, hygiene, and dressing; meal planning and fall reduction; speech collaboration, occupational and physical therapists.

• Support coordination with tender loving care- under this, the organisation help the disabled personae in negotiation the services with other service agreements; help them in arranging any assessment required to determine the nature and type of funding; help them in choosing proffered options or service provider.

• Allied health professional support – under this, the organisation provide a range of professionals such as nurses, occupational therapist, psychologists, pathologist, and therapy assistant

• Specialised transport – it provide the transport services for disable people for social commitments, meetings, or any other outdoor activity

• Plan management – the organisation tailored person’s needs and wants with respect to opportunity and communication

• Accommodation – to actively involved in the perfect living arrangement, the organisation provide active accommodation to the individuals

• Social community and recreational participation

• Day programs – it help in making disable person busy with other activities such as gardening, cooking, arts, computer classes, music, dance, and community events.

Model of practice TLC grow with the vision and mission to nurture the disable people with every single effort the organisation can make. The company actively involved in seminars, workshops, and conference so as to aware people about the difficulties the disable people faces. These workshops and seminars also increase the number of incoming funds and active volunteers that would like to join the service organisation. The organisation management is working for over 50 years (Tender loving care). The team members are passionate and energetic toward service providing and helping the person with disability. The organisation situated in three different locations in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria to help people in different location.

Disadvantages and Marginalisation of Target Group

TLC faces some of the disadvantages and marginalisation in the community services. The target group sometime wish to buy those brands that support their views on human integrity, right, and equality (Ruggs, Stuart, Yang, 2018). This kind of issues elicits negative response rather than a traditional response. Moreover, the advertisement, and promotions create the internal contradiction within the disabled customer in terms of core, belief, values and needs. This shows that the usage of non-traditional methods in advertisement may lead to develop the inconsistency among the end users.

Social Indicator of Need and Impact of Social Institution

Social indicators and institution play a Vitol role in refining the objectives of the community organisation (Indices of social development). These institutions help in growth, human development, social development, and person interaction. For instance, TLC has organised two events in August 2020, Sydney Disability expo and in October 2020 Brisbane disability expo. These active events organization will make people aware of disability and encourage the new people to come forward and volunteer in respect of funding, and participation. these kind of social interaction indicate the wellbeing and overall growth of disable people.

Disability Service Australia

Disability services Australia (DSA) is a social community organisation which support more than 3000 people suffering from disability. The organisation founded in 1957 (Disability service Australia, n.d.). The organisation provides opportunities for choices, achievements, inclusion and help to recognise the one of disable person. The main objective of the organisation is to promote and enhance the lives of people with disability by providing them the opportunities for achievements. To ensure the objective, the organisation offer individualised, personlaised, support and meet the needs of the community.

The organisation is passionate about good life of disable persons and thus provides best services for their livelihood. Ken Gabb is the chairperson of DSA who held senior advisory and material positions with the government. The organisation‘s leadership team and model is headed by CEO Lias Hart who has the experience of more than ten years in non government organisation. The organisation has adopted following business model to achieve its objectives:

• Mutual benefited approach as it provides support to both employer and employee.

The services and opportunities provided by the organisation are as follows:

• Employment services – it provide support to people to build their own capacity and increase their independence. Under this, organisation provides various services, which help the disable man to develop their skill, and educational qualifications. This further helps them to earn being disabled.

• Education and Training – the organisation provide smart and skilled provider delivering traineeships to disable people.

• Enhance health services – it is a multi-clinic psychology and allied health care practices that help in enhancing people’s lives through therapy and help in decision building capacity.

• Mentoring services – under this, the organisation provide a safe and stable transition to the community who are suffering with complex psychosocial disability.

• Home solutions – the organisation provide in home support and assistance with self-care, which might be useful for the disable person to live independently.

• Packaging solution – the organisation provide a financial support to the disable people through working in packaging department. This serviced domain provides opportunity to disable people to work, and earn.

Disadvantages and Marginalisation of Target Group

The target disable group faces a vulnerability issue in a community. Vulnerability defines as a tradition of misbehaviour or misrepresentation of faced by disable person (Baratte et al, 2016). It also affects the living status of individual, which have adverse impact on their well being, and livelihood. The vulnerability account for injustice, inferior, deteriorates community health and mental status. With the same concept, the DSA is working hard to achieve the goal of better life to disable people. The motive of the organisation is to make the disable person to earn while learning.

Social Indicator of Need and Impact of Social Institution

The community service organisation tends to operate at the confined level, which rely on volunteers, to support and provide minimal support services to the neighbourhood. The organisation may provide basic needs with emotional and mental health support to the disable person (National Institute of Standard and technology). The inventory of social institution may be determined through webinars, seminars, workshops, and social gathering competition. Through this one organisation can implement the strategies to provide the individual-centric benefit to the targeted groups. Similarly, In 2019, DSA supports access ability day conducted by Australian government (Disability Service Association, n.d.).

The organisation participated in event with their six enthusiastic disable participants with good experience of job. This active participation of organisation helps people aware about the importance of self-dependent living of disable. Moreover, in 2019 the organisation awarded the finalist in Blacktown city disability awards (Disability service Australia). The award resembles the dedication of organisation effort with tireless work to establish deep connection with the people of Blacktown community. These types of service help in building trust among the disabled or backward community and make them proactive to join the team and provide support to families.
