Seven Theory of Learning

Analysis of The Scenario

In this case study, Michael is the teachers in the school who face difficulty in communicating with Farid who belongs to a different region. Farid found it hard to communicate with the other members in the class. Farid belongs to Syria and he is able to understand three different languages. But the accent is a little bit different from other students which sometimes make him different from other students. Hudson and Grace make fun of his assent however they also worked together with them. On the hand, there are different theories used in the study which are based on teaching and learning. Seven theory of learning is comprised of piglets theory of cognitive development, Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Kolb’s experimental theory, The Peter principle, Rogers humanist theory and Canter’ s theory of assertive disciplines (Lantolf, Poehner & Swain, 2018).

There are various benefits as well as limitations of Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory which explain the scenario completely. Sociocultural theory is one of the emerging theories in psychology which appears to have an important contribution in the society for individual development. As in this case study, individual development refers to the development of Farid skills in managing with a new environment which is entirely different from Syria. According to this theory, learning and development is not just a process of enhancing mental specification but it's also meditation via social and cultural interaction. In the scenario, Farid is unable to interact with the students due to the cultural difference between them and this theory explains the importance of social interaction during learning. The main benefit of these theories that the teachers and the parents usually interact with the student to guide their learning.

Theoretical Perspective of Seven Theory of Learning

Sociocultural theory is one of the most useful theories in terms of educational settings. The main idea of this theory is that all the members should interact with each other and the culture that they are living should shape their mental abilities. It is very significant for teachers as well as parents to eradicate the cultural barriers in learning It is a good learning platform for the students. According to this theory, learning is directly influenced by social and cultural interaction among individuals (Feryok, 2019). According to this theory, every function in the children cultural development appears to be twice, the first one is on the social level while the second one is on an individual level. That means the student first learn the things from other members and then relate to interaction with their family members. In this scenario, the students belong to different cultures and it is the responsibility of the teachers to maintain the interaction of the students’ by applying sociocultural theory. It is the responsibility of the class teacher to make children aware of cultural responsiveness. The teaching strategy used in this theory is maintaining the interaction between the students by modelling task in front of the children’s.

This task has a student a ticket engagement with each other and understands each other. As through this children are more likely to understand by seeing the things that go around them. In order to make students understand this very important to show them the importance of culture difference (Ai & Lu, 2018). The parents as well as teachers both are responsible for this process. However is also noted that this theory focuses on the role of language in cognitive development. Language plays a critical role and cognitive development of the student. It is the main mode by which adult transmits information to the children. The languages are still become the most powerful tool of intellectual adaptation. This theory emphasis on the mode of communication conducted between the student and teacher. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the teacher to make the student aware of the differences between cultural languages and so on. The sociocultural theory set an example where teachers can easily communicate with the students. Parents also play a crucial role in the development of cognitive abilities

Review and Compare of Seven Theory of Learning

Sociocultural theory is referred to as psychological theory which depicts the importance of social and cultural in order to shape and develop an individual. In this scenario, the shape and development of children are demonstrated. It is the responsibility of the parents as well as teachers to develop social cultural and cognitive learning abilities among the students. This theory highlights the importance of social-cultural values and beliefs (Panhwar, Ansari & Ansari, 2016). This theory is highly recommended because changes to be done in the behaviour of the teachers as well as parents first. Comparing the theory with the scenario the teacher is unable to understand the language and maintain the interaction between Farid. This will automatically impact the behaviour of other students with Farid. Therefore the first things that should be adopted by the teacher are to maintain the interaction between the students who are unable to get the proper environment of study (Villamil & Guerrero, 2019). In other words, we can say that this theory is really helpful in order to make relevant changes in student’s behaviour through the improvisation in the teachers and parents behaviour.

Improved Scenario of Seven Theory of Learning

As per this scenario, the teacher found difficulty in order to manage interaction with the Farid. Therefore the entire classroom makes fun of Farid. If the teacher is unable to manage the interaction then all the students will automatically boycott the student who belongs to different culture language etc. Firstly it is the responsibility of the teacher to maintain interaction with Farid and help them to understand their language. Farid is already a bright student and knows how to read and write English (Muller, Buchheister & Boutte, 2017). The only problem is with the ascent that he has. Firstly the teacher should make strict rules so that no students can make fun of his accent. Then the teacher needs to help Farid in order to make his accent similar to other students. The teacher should organise various interactive activities to engage the students and make them understand the importance of cultural difference in society.

The sociocultural theory will help teachers to create activities that can enhance the student’s interaction level. Apart from this, the teacher should tell all the students to help Farid in order to understand the language that she is speaking. Because this is not possible for the teacher to particularly focus on one student in the class. The students were sitting with Farid should not make fun of his assent and help them in the studies (Lantolf & Xi, 2019). This is the responsibility of the entire class to help in order to get comfortable with the class members. Apart from this, it is important to maintain the same level of interaction that others maintain with him. All the members are equally responsible in order to maintain communications. It is the two-way process so all the persons should proactively participate. These things will need to improve the current scenario to get the opportunity and positive environment

Reflection on Seven Theory of Learning

The experience was very pleasant and I have gained a lot from this experience. I have come to know that it is very difficult for the person to get involved in the environment which entirely different from his culture. In this case study, Farid faces immense problem in interacting with the teachers as well as the students. During this entire work, I have learnt that students always learn from their surrounding therefore it is always important for the teachers and the parents to provide an ideal environment for them. In this scenario, the teacher was unable to understand Farid language. It is difficult for the students to understand the ascent that Farid acquired which is different from other fellow members. Therefore they make fun of their accent and maintain a distance with them. From this scenario, I understand that the teachers, as well as parents, play an important role in order to make students adaptive with cultural differences.

If the teacher is cooperative and interactive with the student then all the other students will behave identically. The techniques that help the teachers to get interacted with Farid is that they should understand and help him with their language issues. As Farid is already capable of reading and writing but he is unable to speak fluently the language that other students speak. The teacher should make strict rules in the classroom if anyone tries to make fun of Farid accent. The teacher should also make everyone aware of the consequences of this kind of bullying in the classroom and make them understand that this kind of things highly impact student life. Farid is introvert and he is unable to interact with the other students in the class. He is not able to perform better as compared to other students in the classroom. Therefore this experience helps me to understand the consequences of language and cultural barrier in society.
