The authors in this article focus upon the perceptions of the patients towards the use and adoption of electronic health records(EHR) in Australia. It talks about the factors affecting the approaches of the users towards the EHR. The study conducted is a pilot study done with around 50 participants where a survey based questionnaire was distributed and was statistically analyzed using regression analysis. The findings concluded that a majority of the users are influenced by variables like perceived-usefulness, ease of use and self-efficacy of the records. A positive co-relation is found between the factors and the adoption of the system by the patients. Although the article provides an insightful look into the consumer perceptions around EHR, further research is required to help health educators design meaningful resources for the promotion and adoption of the EHRs for patients and physicians both. This study will help increase focus on the patient’s perspective, knowledge and attitude towards EHRs for my research.

The author in this article focuses on the only regulatory aspect of electronic health records that is – consent around data processing. It talks about the different approaches applied by the European Union and Australia as well and compares the two. The author evaluates and compares the legal aspect around consent and how it plays out in the context of both- the EU and Australia as well. The National electronic health record system in the EU is governed by the GDPR whereby it provides adequate level of protection for data sharing, whereas the MyHealth Records(MHR) in Australia has no certification and is therefore non-consensual in its nature. It concludes that the failure to protect fundamental rights of data subjects under the MHR scheme could be the reason why Australia is not seeking certification for attainment of adequate level of data protection from the European Commission. Also, it reflects upon the fact that there are increasing chances of Australians opting out of the MHR scheme, but the young, old and vulnerable will still continue to be disempowered by the MHR. Even though the study focuses on data regulation, further studies will help decide the ethical concerns around the issue better. This article will be useful in the research to understand the regulatory aspect around data processing of MHR and user consent.

The authors in the article focus on the EHRs and the relationship between the patient and physician associated with patient care; autonomy of the patient, confidentiality and privacy, clinical reasoning and training and professionalism. The article analyses the literature around the use of EHRs and explores the emerging challenges such as ethical and concerns raised by and for the physicians around its use. The authors conclude that EHRs are shaping the interactions between the patient and the physician and also affecting care of the patient and clinical trainings so much so that they are being restructured around the EHRs. The need for further research is observed in the field to understand the co-relation better and improve upon the EHRs and its use. This study will help understand the ethical dilemmas around the usage of HER and the physician’s point of view around them.
