Clinical Leadership

Post 1

I completely disagree with the statement that clinical leadership is of no significance these days. This is because such quality in nursing is of great significance as it ensures improved patient safety and quality care services. It ensures the development of trust and respect among the co-workers and the patients (Ha & Pepin, 2018). For example, a study by Boamah (2019) showed that transformational leadership by the nurses resulted in setting up high standards for ethical conduct and moral values for considering the perspectives of the others for the solutions. It resulted in creating a healthy, empowering, and interactive environment for the patient and the other health professionals. It is found that in an empowering environment the impact in the quality care of the patient is positive because the nurse experiences job satisfaction. With the values of clinical leadership, the nurse ensures that the nursing practice principles, policies, or guidelines are effectively followed and this enhances the knowledge and skills resulting in job satisfaction and high quality of patient safety as well (Boamah, 2018; Boamah, 2019 ). If a nurse has the knowledge of clinical leadership then he/she can make decisions with the help of high levels of self-efficacy and understanding of autonomy for improved patient outcomes. Clinical leadership by the staff nurse not only increases the sustenance but also increases the efficiency of care processes that provides various benefits to the effective care services to the patient and the health care team. Clinical leadership helps the nurse to grow professionally and develop the following skills: clinical expertise, comprehensive and coordinated care, effective communication within the units, and interdepartmental units; all these factors promote the well-being the health of the patient (Ibrahim, 2017). With the knowledge of clinical leadership, the nurses engage in sharing their knowledge and perform interprofessional collaboration that helps in advocating evidence-based nursing practices. Such practices are of high importance in nursing as it helps in the delivery of effective care to the patient and maintain a positive work environment for the nurse as well as his/her fellow team members (Mianda & Voce, 2017).

I completely disagree with the statement because the nurses are the ones who are on the frontline while delivering high-quality care to the patients and if they are provided with some autonomy powers then effective care will be ensured. A study by Oshodi, Bruneau & Crockett et al. (2019), showed that a hospital workplace where nurses are provided with autonomy resulted in better outcomes in reduces mortality rates, improved health, and effective care to rescue the patients from the potential risks of deaths or other health issues. Nurse autonomy ensures high job-satisfaction, commitment to their jobs, high-performance levels, and development of an environment that provides high-quality patient care. The nurses have a basic knowledge of the nursing skills and practices so they can work independently without being relied on other professionals to control the decisions of the nurses (Nibbelink & Brewer, 2018). Such as right dressing, right drug administration, wound dressing or cleaning, repositioning of the patient, and adjust the patient’s setting in case of non-invasive ventilation patients. A nurse should be provided with autonomy because she/he can administer intravenous catheters to the patient who is unwell without waiting for the senior to direct her/him, as it can lead to delay in delivery of care services and the health condition in some cases may get deteriorated. A nurse is qualified enough with the knowledge and skills of administration of IV fluids to the patients (Rao, Kumar & McHugh, 2017). The nursing professional involving decision-making should be made autonomous for few emergency situations for the safety of the patient; such as if the patient condition is changing suddenly then the nurse should have the power to immediately take the decision, but if there is a gradual change in health then she/he should seek to inform the health professionals. Autonomy of nurse will result in effective participation of nurses in policymaking and protocols writing with inter and intra-departmental communications for quality care, quality of working life, and work environment. However, the experienced nurses should be provided with high autonomy then the less experienced nurses (Labrague, McEnroe?Petitte & Tsaras, 2019).

I completely disagree with the statement because it is the duty of the nurse to generate and provide new ideas into the practice of the workplace of the organization to ensure high and effective outcomes. If the nurse steps forward with the ideas of innovation in nursing practices then it can result in effective and affordable care to the patients. It is the duty of the nurse to take part in the meetings of the health care organization to provide views for the up-gradation of the policies and implementation of the new guidelines for an effective change in the organization to ensure benefits to the workers as well as the patients (Machon, Cundy & Case, 2019). For example, a study by Kaya, Turan & Ayd?n (2016), showed that neonatal care is very expensive in some regions and there are huge neonatal mortality rates due to its high cost; so the nurses arranged kangaroo care that is economically safe and socially acceptable. This also helped in reducing the high neonatal mortality rates. The nurse should work to improve the quality of care, health outcomes, and patient experiences by developing innovative models of care and redesigning healthcare. Few successful innovation changes in health care by the nurse include strengthen parenting skills, provide culturally safe family care services or community services, improve caregiver skills, contribute towards quality management, assist the elderly to remain in their homes, and protect and promote breastfeeding (Halstead, 2020). The nurses should use the latest equipment and materials for the care of the patient such as modern pain scales and many others. With the help of innovation in the nursing organization, the evidence-based practice and development of quality improvement get increased that results in improving patient outcomes. The nurses should educate the train the patients and the fellow health professionals to encourage the use of e-modes of health in the organization for effective results such as the use of patient registries, electronic health records (EHRs), My Health Records, and telehealth (Thomas, Seifert & Joyner, 2016). It is the responsibility of the nurse to prioritize the patient’s needs and since they interact with the patients more so they can ask the patients about their ideas for the changes in practice or the services of the organization so an effective café is delivered. If a nurse contributes to the innovation or change in the organization as per the needs of the patient then there will be various positive outcomes such as high patient-satisfaction and many others.
