Description of Professional Placement Experience

During my professional placement experience, I have understood so much regarding the nursing profession and different clinical aspect. The theme one was regarding how infection can be controlled in health care setting that helps me to analyse different method that can be utilized to reduce the chances of healthcare-associated infection. The learning from the 1 week can be utilized in clinical practice improving the working practices that will help to reduce the rate of hospital-associated infection. The second helped me to understand the right procedure for dug administration that can help the patient and that can be applied to future practice. Drug administration is an important part of the clinical practice that increases it important and this incident helped me to improve my skills reading the right procedure for drug administration. One of the important aspects of the nursing profession is communication skills that I learned in the third week of the professional placement experience.

The learning helped me to understand the importance of verbal and non-verbal communication in patient care that can be utilized in future practise to improve the patient experience. The nursing standards are one of the important clinical skills that are required to provide quality of care and it improves the working practise according to the profession that I have learnt in the fourth week of the placement. In the fifth week, I was able to understand how the nurse can encounter an ethical dilemma during patient care and it helped me to understand the importance of ethical consideration in clinical practice. The sixth week includes understanding the importance of professional development in clinical practice. The entire incident in the different weeks has analysed different aspect that can be utilized to improve the working practice.

Feelings for Professional Placement Experience

For the last six weeks, reflecting on the different themes made me realise how important role is played by the nurses in patient care and nurses should follow good clinical skills to improve working practice. After the placement, I was highly motivated to utilize my learning in the clinical setting that directly help me to improve my nursing skills. The first-week incident helped to realise the importance of hand hygiene in reducing healthcare-associated infection and I was so happy to learn from my senior that helped me to understand more about different practices. The second week was quite challenging as I have to assist the patient during drug administration but I was overwhelmed that how my senior helped me to understand the procedure. The third week helped me to gain confidence concerning patient interaction as I was able to practise the effective communication that can be helped me to improve my future communication skills.

In the fourth week, I was amused after undersign the different aspect of the NMBA and NSQHS nursing standards that can be utilized to improve the clinical practice. I was very anxious in the fifth week as ethical consideration is one of the important aspects of the nursing and ethical dilemma can increase the complication of the patient. The sixth week helped to increase empathy toward a patient issue that can be utilized in future research to improve rapport with the patient which can help in clinical practice. The different weeks came with different challenges but overall, I was happy and motivated to utilize my placement learning in clinical practise that will improve my working practise.

Evaluation of Professional Placement Experience

The nurses are expected to improve their working practises following the nursing standard that can help to provide the quality of care. Nurses play a major role in patient care and treatment procedure that directly increase their responsibility to provide a safe environment for the patient to reduce the chances of any infection. The nurses are expected to follow the professional requirement that can help to reduce the rate of infection that include following hand hygiene, utilizing precautionary practice method, use of right aseptic technique and accurate cleaning with the disinfectant process (Kirtil & Akyuz, 2018). Drug administration is the process during which the patient requires assistance and nurses are expected to provide accurate help to the patient to reduce the chances of medical error. The nurse should be aware of the right procedure and medication concerning patient condition and they are expected to prefer patient choice during administration.

The correct route and dose of the medication should be followed by the nurse as prescribed by the doctor and patient should be educated regarding the importance with the side effect of the medication (Zyoud et al., 2019). The direct interaction with the patient increases the need if the nurse to utilize effective communication skill that helps to improve the patient experience. The nurses should utilize effective and therapeutic communication skill during patient care to improve the rapport with the patient that help during patient care. Effective communication utilizes verbal and nonverbal communication skill to improve the quality of care (Fakhr-Movahedi et al., 2016). The nurses are expected to follow the professional standard during the patient care to provide quality of care to the patient.

Nursing and Midwifery Board (2017) proposed the professional guidelines that are needed to be followed as a nurse to provide the quality of care and reduce the chances of complication that can occur due to carelessness. The three aspects that are needed to be considered during patient care include the standard of practice, code of conduct and code of ethics that are to be utilized as a nurse. The Standards aim to reduce the chances of harm that can occur to the patient and improve the working practice to provide accurate care.

The standard includes 8 principles that have utilized different aspect of the clinical setting to improve the working practice and nurse are expect to follow the different aspect of the standards (Australian Commission on safety and quality in health care, 2020). Ethical consideration is one of the important aspects that is needed to be considered during patient care to reduce the chances of ethical dilemmas. Nurses should follow the code of ethics and ethical principle to reduce the chances of ethical issue that can lead to serious complication. The ethical principle helps to maintain the quality of practise by considering basic human right and reduce the chances of an ethical dilemma for nurses (Haddad & Geiger, 2020). The nurses are expected to maintain compatibility with the profession to improve the quality of care and patient health care experience. Nurses are expected to improve their clinical skill by utilizing education as a tool that helps to improve knowledge about professional standards (Bindon, 2017).

Analysis of Professional Placement Experience

After these incidents, I analysed the importance of different aspect in the nursing profession and how a health care professional can improve the health care setting. The health care associates are expected to follow the professional standard and clinical skills that help to improve the quality of care. Before the placement, I was aware of the standard and clinical skill but I was not able to utilize it in my clinical practice to improve the working procedure. This placement helped me to understand the different method that can be utilized to implement the nursing standard during patient care to improve the quality of care. The use of standard and clinical skill during patient care was clear after the placement that has helped me to improve my clinical practice skills. The placement helped me to improve my clinical skills following the nursing profession that can help to improve future practice by incorporating the different aspect of the standards

Conclusion on Professional Placement Experience

I can conclude after the placement that there is a need to utilize the nursing standard and clinical skill into patient care to improve care. The nurses should not only understand the different aspect of the standard but should implement the different professional standards in clinical practise that will help to improve working practise and improve the quality of life of the patient. The increased rapport with the patient can be formed by using professional standards that is directly related to better health care outcome. The nursing and midwifery board professional standard and NSQHS standard should be utilized during the patient care to improve professionalism in the care. The placement experience can be concluded by saying it has helped me to improve has a nurse by updating my clinical skill.

Action Plan on Professional Placement Experience

I will try to utilize my increase in understanding reading the professional standard and clinical skill in the patient care to provide quality of care to the patient. I try to utilize the Nursing and Midwifery Board professional standard during the care to improve the quality of care that will improve the patient experience. I will also try to help my colleagues during the care to improve their understanding regarding the importance of quality of care. The learning from the placement can be utilized to improve patient care and increase the compatibility with the nursing profession. I will try to improve my understanding regarding the patient issue that can be utilized to provide accurate care to the patient by utilizing accurate intervention.
