Introduction to Global Perspectives on Modernity

If we look in this modern world of the 21st century it has evolved within a short period. This has happened mainly due to globalisation and modernisation of the society which has led to a drastic change in the lives of the people in all the communities even in my family. Now due to the changes in society, it has also led to a change in the social processes. Now to earn a living people are migrating from rural to urban areas as a result of more job opportunities because of industrialisation and evolution of technical advancements. It is been seen over the past decade that migration has increased over the last 50 years and migration has become more vibrant and diversified in nature (Arango 2000). Now due to more employment and job vacancies, people, as a result of industrialisation, are travelling to different cities, states or even countries sometimes in search of job or work. This has happened as more and more start-ups are emerging every day as a consequence of growing modern advancements in technology. My family member gets a better opportunity in the world beyond which has led to change in our family dynamics of living in this modern society. This research aims to analyse the impact of industrialisation and technological advancements on the daily life of a member of the family.

Literature Review of Global Perspectives on Modernity

In the past decade, one of the major reasons for the migration of people from their home towns is due to industrialisation and also due to growing technological advancements. The first scholar to see this was Frederic Le Play in the year 1855. At that time, he revealed that the shift of families from one place to another was just a coincidence but it had a systematic pattern (Puschmann and Solli 2014). He found out that this was happening as a result of socio-economic developments in various regions. If we take a look this happened a lot in these western countries after their liberalisation from the colonial rule in the 1950s at that time where the major root cause of it was accelerated establishment of industries (Meher 2003).

Moreover, in the present world, the same thing is happening which started in the 1850s. People are leaving their hometowns with their respective families in search of good jobs which can help them to sustain and maintain a high standard of living. In addition to this, technological advancements and revolutions have to lead to a decrease in the cost of travel in the 21st century. This has led to people migrating at larger numbers (Czaika and Haas 2014). In addition to this, technological advancements have comparatively decreased the hindrances in mobility and also have made the networks stronger to stay in connected to the families irrespective of long distances. It has also helped the migrant workers to travel back to their families whenever needed and where ever they want to go at a short period (Faist 2000). Moreover, with the economies in the 1980s becoming laissez-faire it has led to an increase in the number of industries to import and export goods from one country to another. With industries opening up in the urban areas people fled from rural and urban areas in search of jobs which again contributed to the migration of people.
