Abstract

The following essay presents answers to four questions related to grammar issues. Trees of evolution for sentences and corrections of ones are brought to attention. These have pivots with main words in the left bottom part. A print screen of DESKTOP along with the dashboard of JPG’s elements has been inserted into this report after a WhatsApp image JPG has been taken and modified after BRIGHTNESS, CONTRAST and LUMINOSITY.

Methodology & Content

The body of this report focuses on answers to four questions related to grammar issues . There are presented two that are not correct and other ones that misfit the initial sense of the given sentence. Other topics are related to trees of sentences where two pivots are present in each tree with a main word in the structure and amendments to four sentences “ how these should be “.

Q1 – A1

Question 1

  • The monkeys hit him with their clenched fists .

( Now consider the examples in ( iii ) - ( vii ) :

( iii ) What the monkeys did with their clenched fists was hit him .

( iv ) It was the monkeys who hit him with their clenched fists .

( v ) How did the monkeys hit him ?

( vi ) It was the man that the monkeys hit with their clenched fists .

( vii ) What the monkeys did was hit him with their clenched fists .

A ) Which of the examples in ( iii ) - ( vii ) show ( s ) that the structure in ( II ) is wrong ? Explain the logic of the argument ( s ) and why any remaining examples do not make the same point .

B ) To which node should the PP ‘ with their clenched fists ’ have been attached in the correct analysis of ( I ) ? Justify your answer . Draw the correct tree .

Answer 1

A . 5 and 6 . These make the initial sentence “ wrong “ , ieq. without sense , not to be correct . Sense becomes altered . The other three sentences are somehow identical with the given one . Elements such as “ to “ preposition in the seventh sentence and “ was to “ in the first one can be added or written further .

B . without fi - node , since this will make without it GRAMMATICALLY correct . This is an add – in , superfluous element , that might be considered useless .

Q2 - A2

Question 2

A . wee nabiye mwarî ûyû

‘ He knows this girl . ’

B . mûthaka ûûra mwarimû

’ That man is a teacher . ’

Answer 2

He - - > knows - - > this - - > girl .

That - - > man - - > is - - > a - - > teacher .

The root element of the tree is formed as follows : two pivots and the word of the sentence , pivots being taken for recurrence . The upper pivot makes transition between the words of the sentence . So , the tree is a recurrence or sequence of root – elements .
